About Emily Taylor
Joining as a part-time art therapy instructor in Spring 2024, Ms. Taylor brings a clinical, pragmatic, and collaborative perspective to Adler Graduate School’s Art Therapy Department. She has a wealth of experience that spans multiple clinical areas, advocacy, education, State and local politics, community organizing, group facilitation, and communication through the arts.
Ms. Taylor is a proud Detroit native and AGS alum, and has studied and worked across cultures and locations, with significant time spent in New York City, Ireland, Iowa City, and the Twin Cities. Prior to attending AGS, Ms. Taylor developed programs, taught classes, and functioned as a guest lecturer covering a wide range of topics in both formal and informal education settings across the country for more than a decade. Throughout her professional non-profit and life-long volunteer experience, Ms. Taylor has worked in collaboration with diverse groups and individuals in the community using social interest and a curious, learner mindset to develop communications modules and events to create positive social change whenever possible.
Ms. Taylor is a Board-Certified Clinical Art Therapist (ATR-BC) and Supervisor and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) with an advanced AIR Network trauma and neuroscience certification. She holds a Master of Arts from Adler Graduate School, a Bachelor of Arts from Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and additional cultural training from Burren College of Art in Ballyvaughan, Co. Claire, Ireland.
In addition to her role at AGS, Ms. Taylor also runs a private art-therapy practice where she primarily works with women and gender-diverse individuals through neuro-based clinical art therapy. Beyond her practice and teaching, Ms. Taylor actively contributes to the field by offering supervision, trainings, participating in Minnesota LCAT efforts, and volunteering for local social justice projects and art therapy community initiatives.
Prior to private practice, Ms. Taylor’s clinical work encompassed a wide range of individuals and groups with a trauma background; (school-age children 5-12, adolescents, adults) and in diverse settings (hospitals, clinics, shelters, schools). Her work has included collaborating with LGBTQIA+ youth, battered women, veterans, sexual assault and trafficking victims, and those addictions in both individual and group settings.
