About Letitia Browne-James

I am a Counselor Educator and Supervisor, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Board Certified Counselor, Board Certified-TeleMental Health Provider, and Qualified Clinical Supervisor for mental health counselors and marriage and family therapists seeking licensure in Florida. I am an author, speaker, researcher, consultant, associate professor, and marriage, couples, and family counseling program coordinator at Adler Graduate School.

As an educator, my teaching philosophy is learner-centered and eclectic. It includes using experiential activities, lectures, and written assignments to meet the diverse learning styles of adult students. I also approach teaching from a constructivist perspective, a collaborative teaching and learning environment where I use relevant examples from my professional experiences and encourage students to do the same. I use appropriate humor to create a balance of lightheartedness in my classes. I strive to help students expand their worldviews and increase their cultural, ethical, and advocacy skills, and I serve as a resource for them.

As a clinician, supervisor, and administrator, I have over fifteen years of experience working with adults, children, families, and couples in various clinical settings. I am the Founder and Owner of Victorious Living Counseling & Consulting, a group counseling practice in Florida owned by my Corporation, Dr. LBJ, Inc., offering outpatient services to various populations. I am also the Founder and President of LBJ Behavioral Services, a nonprofit offering outpatient counseling to uninsured or underinsured individuals.

As a speaker, consultant, and researcher, I focus on areas like racial and other microaggressions, human trafficking, gatekeeping in counseling, multicultural pedagogy and supervision, the intersections of mental and physical health issues in counseling, and other topics. I am passionate about serving and advocating for persons from marginalized populations while creating positive social change.

I currently serve as the Vice Chair on the Advisory Council of the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) Minority Fellowship Program (Mental Health), Chair of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision’s (ACES)Human Rights and Social Justice Committee, and as the Bylaws Chair of the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development (AMCD). I am a Member of theFlorida Counseling Association’s (FCA) Bylaws and Public Policy Committees, serve on Boys Town of Central Florida’s Board of Directors, and am a researcher on a SAMHSA grant awarded to a large behavioral health organization in Central Florida. I am also a member of the Orange County Chapters of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and Bethune-Cookman and Walden Universities’ Alumni Associations.

I am a Past President of the FCA, the Florida Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development (FAMCD), Chi Sigma Iota (CSI) Omega Zeta Chapter at Walden University, and a Past Treasurer of the AMCD. I served as an Ethics and Compliance Advisory Board Member at Patients Like Me, where I helped amplify the voices of patients living with medical and mental health conditions and illnesses, and as a Non-Physician Board Member on the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Specialty Board, where I helped make important decisions about training and continuing education for internal medicine physicians.
