Belonging and Contributing through School Counseling
Within the Adler Graduate School’s vision of “Social Interest in Action,” an idea was born and developed into the Adler School Counseling Service Center (SCSC). The goal of the SCSC is, "to collaborate with schools to create comprehensive school counseling programs, impact systems, and address the needs of school counselors and underserved school communities by providing education and consultation to increase the quality and access of SC services. Our ultimate goal is to work with schools and school counselors who aim to increase the quality and access to school counseling services."
The Center began its activities as a result of a generous grant from the Traveler’s Foundation. These activities focused on St. Paul Public School children during the 2010-2011 school year and served to help them achieve greater academic success. During the 2011-2012 school year, SCSC counselors will work with students in Intermediate District 287 to support academic and personal/social needs.
Our objective, simply put, is to make available to all schools student support services provided by licensed school counselors. Specifically, we are most concerned about those schools with little or no current services, including but not limited to, elementary schools, alternative schools, charter schools and small private schools.
While our ultimate goal is to have the appropriate counselor-to-student ratio in every school in Minnesota, our current aim is to simply get as much quality school counseling to as many students as possible. The SCSC is available to contract with schools for part-time licensed school counselor services based on the school’s need or budget.
