Using Visual Arts to Help Reduce Symptoms of Generalized Anxiety Disorder

Generalized Anxiety Disorder is a common mental disorder in the clinical setting.  The use of creative arts can be a powerful therapeutic intervention and has been linked to the reduction of symptoms of anxiety.  The aim for this paper is to (a) define visual arts and how these can impact the therapeutic alliance and promote growth, (b) define anxiety from a clinical and Adlerian perspective, and (c) explore the benefits of using visual arts (with an emphasis on drawing and painting) as a therapeutic intervention to help reduce Generalized Anxiety Disorder symptoms.
