This paper will aim to explore addiction, recovery, and the use of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) with individuals seeking substance abuse treatment and long-term recovery. It will look closely at the skills taught in a Dialectical Behavior Therapy program and how these skills would be viable options in managing symptoms for substance abusers and promote for them a thought process that allows for a better sense of control. A closer look will also be taken at addiction, treatment, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy through an Adlerian lens to show how DBT for substance abusers would be an Adlerian approved and effective treatment program giving the individual skills and sustainability.
