The treatment of addiction is complicated and has a very low success rate. Those addicts who beat the addiction say it never stops being a challenge. Even those who have been sober for over 20 years report they still are fighting it. Mental health practitioners have been battling to find effective treatments for addiction, and since each person's addiction is different, treatment poses a unique challenge. The following project examined the current treatments focusing on a few of the current assessments used to determine a substance abuse issue as well as the relevance to Adlerian therapy. It also examined some of the alternative treatments gaining popularity and their effectiveness.
