About this Event
This presentation is an introduction to trauma play therapy from an Adlerian Play Therapy approach. Participants will be provided information on trauma in children and how trauma impacts the neurological system. We will examine how play therapy elicits healing from trauma. Participants will learn about the stages of trauma healing and play based activities to utilize during each stage – including how to support their families. We will also touch on the importance of self-care. (This course will not be offering play therapy continuing education hours.)

Participants in this workshop will be able to:
1. Identify how trauma effects children and how it impacts the neurological system
2. Identify how play & expressive therapies help elicit healing from trauma
3. Articulate the steps in Adlerian Play Therapy & stages of trauma healing
4. Identify specific hands-on techniques that can be utilized with clients & parents-family during stages of trauma play from an Adlerian approach
Susan Dannen is a Licensed Independent Social Worker, Registered Play Therapist and Supervisor. She is currently a therapist in Outpatient Mental Health at Heartland Christian Counseling Center. She has been an adjunct instructor at Adler Graduate School and has trained under Dr. Terry Kottman in Adlerian Play Therapy.
