Counseling Adolescents and Teens - Laurie Moser, MA LMFT - Approved for 6 CE’s- Session Delivered Virtually Face to Face Through Zoom

5/29/2020 - 9:00am to 4:30pm CDT

This is an online course

Counselors are often scared or worried about working with teens. All they need is to use their listening skills to cement a bond with the teen. That is first up for anyone wanting to work with kids aged 12 to 18. Counselors will also need to work with parents and will need to teach them a new way to communicate with their teens. Some teens get super quiet and say nothing, ever. Some teens get super sassy and say too much.  Communication is the key for both you and your clients’ parents too. When you are working with teens and for parents living with teens you need to recognize when to worry and when their behavior is normal teen development. This presentation will provide practitioners with techniques for working with teens and their parents.

Goals:

Provide participants with psycho-educational information about adolescents and their developmental trajectory.

Participants will learn how to communicate best with their teen clients and their parents.

Participants will also learn how to deal with likely symptoms of typical teen diagnoses like: Depression, Anxiety, Eating Disorders, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, ADHD, OCD, Agoraphobia, etc.

We will spend significant time working with self-harm and suicidality.
