Counseling Children/Teens with ADHD
Up to 10% of children and teens have ADHD. Because of the many problems and associated diagnoses, they are often seen for therapy. Practitioners need to know how this condition impacts their client and the best techniques and strategies for dealing with the problems. Parents often need guidance as well, in trying to help their child. Specific techniques and strategies will be taught and demonstrated. Participant’s will also received helpful information regarding whether the use of medication would be advisable.
Participants will understand the problems associated with ADHD, especially with the executive functions.
Participants will learn techniques and strategies that are very helpful in working with this population and their families.
Participants will learn about the mistaken beliefs that are commonly associated with having this neurological condition so that the client and the family can understand and those beliefs can be changed.
Participants will learn when the use of medication could be helpful.
