This series is intended to help mental health practitioners develop expertise in the use of Adlerian Lifestyle Assessment. It is a series of workshops that will enable participants to use a variety of techniques to identify mistaken beliefs and help the client to modify them. Lecture, demonstration and practice will be used to help participants learn to use this information in therapy, to help clients change.Participants with active clients are preferred but this is not required.

The GEM Process to Help Clients Find Their Sparkle the Adlerian Way

The objective of learning to use the GEM process is to provide a new four step method of gathering early recollections using GEM as the acronym for each of the four steps that follow the Adlerian protocol. Participants will learn to discover with the client, the meanings they likely applied to their experiences at the time, and how they impacted client behavioral choices. They will then be able to reconstruct those meanings so that previous movement from mistaken beliefs can be understood and reconstructed for new empowered lifestyle movement on the client’s part.

USING BODY AND MOVEMENT TO WORK WITH EMOTIONS IN CLINICAL PRACTICE

Research has validated the embodied nature of our feelings and we now know that emotions are always experienced and expressed through our bodies and movement patterns. Addressing emotion on a non-verbal level can augment therapeutic healing and growth and is essential to the clinical process of integration and change. This experiential workshop will explore how the body and movement can be safely and appropriately used to access and work with the client’s emotions.

CONFLICT IS NATURAL---EFFORT MAKES IT WORK DESCRIPTION: In this first Workshop, MAPS of Adlerian human development will be used to demonstrate the place of conflict in human living. Building on that, the three Life Styles Adler identified will be used to further focus the process of conflict. This review will sharpen the insight of those who want to facilitate and resolve conflict. These insights will be applied to three basic Conflict Styles. All of this will be accomplished within a case study, input, interaction and application experience.

Counseling Children/Teens with ADHD

Up to 10% of children and teens have ADHD. Because of the many problems and associated diagnoses, they are often seen for therapy. Practitioners need to know how this condition impacts their client and the best techniques and strategies for dealing with the problems. Parents often need guidance as well, in trying to help their child. Specific techniques and strategies will be taught and demonstrated. Participant’s will also received helpful information regarding whether the use of medication would be advisable.

Artist and Wellness Consultant, Pat Duncan, combines her art and psychological expertise, with her life changing experience of losing a daughter. She has a strong desire to empower participants to claim and use the energy embedded in fear, anxiety and grief. She truly believes that Adler's belief that "inside of each is a creative force that is identical with the Life Force." This workshop is about the use of that "creative force".

Techniques for Behavior Change-Susan Pye Brokaw, LMFT

Therapists often struggle with how to help their clients change, to overcome their problems. There are techniques that have been proven to be useful in bringing about change in clients. In this workshop, participants will learn a variety of techniques that are useful in working with individuals, couples and families. They will see demonstrations of some of the techniques and will practice the techniques to build their competence and confidence in using them.

Participants will learn how the use of techniques in therapy sessions can help bring about change in clients.
