Adlerian Studies (Online) - Program Outcomes

1. Understand the philosophy and psychology formulated and practiced by Alfred Adler, applications of Adlerian Psychology, and Adlerian solutions for individual, family, and social tasks;

2. Understand the cultural context of human existence; theories, issues and trends related to multicultural self, others, families, communities, and multiversed universe; explore Adlerian contributions to multiculturalism;

3. Understand principles and processes of research in social science; be able to appreciate, describe, and analyze Adlerian research; be able to interpret scientific research and apply one’s understanding of this research, within the framework of Adlerian psychology, to the solution of individual and communal problems;

4. Understand the nature and needs of individuals at all developmental levels, in multicultural contexts, and the theories explaining life span development, including Adlerian ideas on how an individual forms the world and life views by which he or she lives;

5. Understand various theoretical perspectives on personality, human behavior in general and the development, symptoms, and patterns of maladjustment behavior in particular. Understand psychopathology from an Adlerian perspective and the basic concepts of assessment with social, ethical, and legal implications;

6. Understand purpose, development, dynamic, and theories explaining group processes;

7. Understand basic information about theory guiding family therapy and the history of theories that have impacted the study of families; understand essential concepts for working with couples and families, including Adlerian concepts;

8. Understand career development and related life factors. Correlate Adlerian task of work with contemporary trends and stresses; provide technology resources and strategies for practical application of theoretical models of career development;

9. Understand issues and ethics affecting mental health professionals; build an ethical foundation and a complementary, systematic strategy for making complicated ethical decisions; understand universal standards in the human services and mental health fields, and the application of universal human rights in the helping professions. Formulate a personal code of professional ethics integrating pertinent laws, professional ethics codes, personal moral beliefs and influences, and Adlerian principles;
