Gladys Folkers took the class Maintaining Sanity in the Classroom from the Alfred Adler Institute of Minnesota (AAIM) to renew her teacher's license and ended up with a new degree and career. Adlerian Psychology was so compatible with her philosophy of life, parenting and teaching that she says, "I could not ignore the opportunity in front of me." She received her Masters of Arts in Counseling and Psychotherapy from AAIM and is now an adjunct faculty member. In the past Gladys has taught Counseling Children and Adolescents: Theory and Counseling Children and Adolescents: Application, at the Adler Graduate School . She is also an adjunct professor at Minneapolis Community and Technical College , in Minneapolis , Minnesota .
Gladys' teaching strengths include her ability to connect with all learning styles, to incorporate concrete examples into the class and to teach experientially. "I set firm expectations for my class," she says, "with room for students to be creative in meeting those expectations."
Though she is presently on sabbatical from her private practice where she counseled adolescents and their families, she continues to enjoy seeing adolescents and/or their families understand human behavior, the purpose of behavior, and the ownership of problems and says, "I love it when teens 'get it'!"
